The problems of bribery and corruption confronting the nation can be solved by all, the Member of Parliament for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Mr Francis Addai Nimoh, has stated.

He attributed actions and inaction of all Ghanaians as contributing to this problem and therefore stressed the need for concerted efforts at finding lasting solutions.

Mr Addai-Nimoh stated this at the induction service organised for the new Sekyere Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Ernest Odame Asare, at the Asante-Mampong Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Odame Asare is the third Presbytery Chairperson of the Sekyere Presbytery, which consists of 12 districts including Mampong, Effiduasi, Atetebubu, Ejura, Agona, Yeji, Nsuta and Wiamoase. The rest are Jamasi, Benim, Kumawu and Sekyedumasi.

Mr Addai-Nimoh said the church and the state were partners in development and therefore urged the church to support the total development of the country.

The MP also urged the church to play a more significant role by embarking on a crusade for the people to desist from negative practices that retarded national development.

"No country in the world can develop when bribery and corruption has become the order of the day,” he said.

Mr Addai-Nimoh commended the PCG for the enormous contribution made towards the country's development, especially in education, health and moral training.

That, he noted, had brought about much progress and development to the country.

Rt Rev. Professor Martey, in his sermon, urged all the members and stakeholders  to work in close collaboration to enhance effective running of the presbytery.

He said it was only working together in an atmosphere devoid of negative tendencies that could bring the presbytery to a higher pedestal.

Rt Rev. Professor Martey also urged the church to be proactive and move out of its traditional way of overtaxing its members and adopt more pragmatic strategies to realise revenues to man the church.

He urged the members to be bold and ensure that what they did or what they said would bring peace, unity and development to the country.

The moderator, however, advised them not to allow themselves to be used by self-seeking politicians who were always in for their parochial interests.

Rev. Odame Asare commended the presbytery for the honour and confidence reposed in him and assured the gathering that he would put the experience and expertise he had to good use to enable the presbytery to realise its objectives.

He, however, urged all members to get involved and adopt a positive approach to doing things.

The Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Mohammed Kwadwo Abuasu, commended the efforts of the PCG in nation building.
