Buhari's victory: NPP engaged in lotto forecasting - Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Asiedu Nketia, has said that opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters who are drawing parallels between Mahammudu Buhari’s victory in Nigeria’s presidential election and Ghana’s upcoming election in 2016 are deluding themselves.

Several NPP supporters have welcomed General Buhari and the All Progressives Congress' (APC) victory, expressing hope that a similar victory will be won by the NPP and flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections.

But speaking to Accra-based radio station, Starr FM, Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as general Mosquito, said NPP supporters were engaged in gambling and “lotto forecasting”.

He said: “They (NPP) are engaged in lotto forecasting, where they look into the skies and car numbers and predict lotto numbers.

“I do not think that their assumptions are based on any reasonable intellectual argument at all”.

Muhammadu Buhari won Nigeria's presidential election by 2.57 million votes, according to official results announced on Wednesday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission said the 72-year-old, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), won 15,424,921 votes or 53.95 per cent of the 28,587,564 total valid votes cast.

His nearest rival, President Goodluck Jonathan, 57, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won 12,853,162 (44.96 percent) at the election, which was held on Saturday and Sunday.

INEC chairman Attahiru Jega said: "Muhammadu Buhari, of the APC, having satisfied the requirement for the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected."
