COMOG lauds President for appointing Justice Tanko Amadu to Supreme Court

The Coalition of Muslims Organisations Ghana (COMOG) has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nominating Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

In a press statement, COMOG said the elevation of Justice Amadu to the highest court of the land was a blessing to Muslims and the country.

“The Almighty Allah said in the Holy Quran, ‘If you are grateful, I would certainly give you more; and if ungrateful, my chastisement is truly severe’ (14:7)”

“It is against this background that COMOG wishes to associate with the National Chief Imam’s message by expressing our profound appreciation for appointing Justice Amadu, who has played a pivotal role in the affairs of the Muslim Community in Ghana; to the apex court of the land’’, the statement said.

Approval

On May 20, 2020, Parliament approved the nomination of Justice Amadu and three others after vetting them.

In a unanimous approval of the nominations of the four, the House said in spite of the few hiccups that characterised the vetting of one of them, Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, the four nominees generally proved that they were cut for the job at the apex court.

The rest are Professor Henrietta J.A.N Mensa-Bonsu, a former Law lecturer at the University of Ghana, and Mr Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, a private legal practitioner.

Consequently, President Akufo-Addo has sworn the four into office.
