Dr Adutwum retains Bosomtwe seat

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has retained his seat in Parliament on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his victory in the December 7 general election.

He polled 46,797 votes to defeat his closest contender, Abdullah Hamidu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 12,842 votes. Samuel Adusei-Akwaboah, who contested on the ticket of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), secured 200 votes, while Eric Osei Boateng of the Convention People's Party (CPP) obtained 152 votes.

The total valid votes cast was 59,991, with 393 rejected ballots. The total number of votes cast was 60,384.  

Incident-free election  

The election, which recorded no incidents throughout the constituency, will be remembered as one of the most peaceful to be held in the Bosomtwe Constituency.  

Mr Lawrence Essien, the Returning Officer for the Constituency, subsequently declared Dr Osei Adutwum the winner of the election, confirming his re-election to represent the people of Bosomtwe in Parliament for the next four years.  

This victory marks the third time the MP has been elected to represent the people of Bosomtwe in Parliament.  

In the Presidential election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secured 45,400 votes, while John Dramani Mahama received 13,179 votes. The remaining ten candidates scored between four and 878 votes, with 620 rejected ballots.  

Appreciation  

In his acceptance speech, Dr Adutwum, who is also the Minister for Education, expressed his profound gratitude to the electorate for reposing their confidence in him for the third time.

He also commended the leadership of the party in the constituency for their hard work and sacrifices in securing such a resounding victory. He pledged to work tirelessly to elevate the image of the constituency both in Ghana and abroad.
