Dr Bawumia calls Mahama, concedes defeat
The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, said he has called his closest contender, former President John Dramani Mahama, to concede defeat in the 2024 Presidential election.
Dr Bawumia stated that while waiting for the official results from the Electoral Commission (EC), the NPP's internal collation data showed that former President Mahama had won the presidential election decisively.

He also mentioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a victory in the parliamentary elections, although he noted that the collation of some seats was still underway.
Despite this, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the final results would not alter the overall outcome of the elections.
Addressing the media at his residence at Cantonments in Accra this morning, Dr Bawumia, who was flanked by his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and other national and regional party executives, said: “I have just called His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him as President elect of the Republic of Ghana. I said during the signing of the peace pact that I was sure of two things:
“Ghana will win and peace will reign. The people of Ghana have spoken, people have voted for change at this time and we respect that decision with all humility.
He was grateful to God Almighty for how far he has brought him and said: “I submit to his will.”
“I am making this concession speech before the official announcement by the EC to avoid further tension and preserve the peace of the country.
It is important that the world investor community continue to believe in the peaceful and democratic character of Ghana,” he stated, saying these were the most important assets of the country.
