FIC boss pays emotional tribute to late Defence Minister Omane Boamah

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Kwadwo Twum Boafo, has given a heartfelt tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, recalling his unwavering personal support and profound national dedication.

Dr. Omane Boamah was among eight patriots who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the Adansi-Akrofuom district of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Friday, August 22, Mr Twum Boafo shared intimate details of their close bond. He revealed how the late minister, while studying at the London School of Economics, immediately flew back to Ghana to support him during a personal ordeal.

“At the time I was facing issues with EOCO, Dr. Omane Boamah was studying at the London School of Economics. When he heard about my arrest, he flew from London to spend a week with me,” he recounted.

Mr Twum Boafo described the difficulty of coming to terms with the minister's sudden passing, emphasising the frequency of their communication. “I don’t think a week passed without hearing from him. Two days before the incident, I spoke with him,” he said.

He eulogised Dr. Omane Boamah as a uniquely resourceful and intelligent leader who remained composed during crises. “He left an indelible mark not only on his family and close associates but also on the nation,” Ing. Twum Boafo stated.

Addressing the families of all eight victims, his voice filled with emotion, he said, “I don’t know what I would say to his children or to Rita. I offer them my deepest condolences.”

He concluded his tribute with a moving farewell in Twi, saying, “Omane, da yie [rest well]. I hope to see you sometime, hopefully not too soon, because yewo edwuma ye [we have work to do].”

A state funeral was held for the eight deceased on August 15, 2025.
