Former GN Bank staff applaud President-elect Mahama’s pledge to revive indigenous financial institutions
A group of sympathizers and former staff of the defunct GN Bank and Savings have expressed their encouragement over President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to restoring indigenous financial institutions unjustifiably dismantled by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
“Your promise to revive GN Savings Bank, along with several defunct banks, savings and loans companies, and fund management firms resonates deeply with our aspirations for economic recovery and stability,” the group stated.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the convenor of the group, Philip Sarpiah, to congratulate President-elect Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their recent electoral victory.
“This overwhelming support is a clear manifestation of the collective will of our community, united in the desire for meaningful change in Ghana,” the statement, issued on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, added.
The group acknowledged the significant challenges faced by the nation due to the 2019 banking crisis, which they said had devastating effects on millions of Ghanaians.
“The actions taken by the previous administration, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, have left a deep and lasting impact on our financial landscape,” the group noted.
“We are encouraged by your commitment to restore the indigenous financial institutions that were unjustifiably dismantled,” they reiterated.
As President-elect Mahama prepares to assume office, the group prayed for God’s guidance and blessings upon him. “May you be granted long life, strength, wisdom, knowledge, insight, courage, and the fear of God to guide your governance,” the statement concluded.
