Dissolve National Working Committee - CPP Regional Chairmen urge Council of Elders

The Regional Chairmen Caucus of the Convention People's Party has called on the Council of Elders to, as a matter of urgency, revoke all appointments made to the National Working Committee.

It described the inauguration of the National Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Moses Yahaya as a total disgrace to the corporate image of the party, borne out of greed and dishonesty.

A statement signed in Accra and issued by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the CPP, Godwin Opare Addo, on behalf of the regional chairmen caucus, said the National Working Committee was not a constitutional organ and cannot replace the central committee, which “is recognised as the highest administrative body and the directing mind of the Party.”

CPP strength

It said the CPP drew its strength from the unity and dedication of its members and “together we have the responsibility to rebuild the party to restore our constitutional framework.

“It is the conviction of the regional chairmen caucus that a practical constitutional path must be used for stabilising and rebuilding the party,” it stated.

The statement pointed out that temporary arrangements introduced during periods of difficulty could not permanently replace the constitutional organs, namely the national delegates congress, the national executive council and the central committee.

“The authority conferred on the council of elders by the consent judgment granted by an Accra High Court for the implementation of the structural reorganisation and elections is being misapplied by the Council of Elders to the detriment of the rank and file of the Party,” it stated.

It said the Council of Elders had not been proactive in acting as a constitutional trustee to ensure that the Party did not operate in a leadership vacuum since the Independent Committee under the chairmanship of Wing Commander (rtd) Patrick Sogbodjor was dissolved on November 13, 2025.

Vacuum

The statement said that since the CPP Constitution did not permit a leadership vacuum, the Party must continue to function through its recognised Constitutional organs, with the Central Committee being the highest administrative body, taking charge of the day-to-day operations of the party.

It said the Council of Elders, therefore, erred by appointing members of the National Working Committee without consulting the regional chairmen, the youth wing, the women's wing and the legal fraternity.

“The challenge before the Party is not to create new leadership structures but to restore the functioning of the constitutional organs and allow them to guide the rebuilding of the organisation and the preparation for a national delegates congress.

“Creating additional leadership outside the constitutional framework by the council of elders risks creating uncertainty regarding authority and may further weaken organisational unity within the party,” it stated.
