Election 2024: Peace Council condemns looting, destruction of property
The National Peace Council (NPC) has condemned the destruction of offices and the looting of warehouses in parts of the country by some irate youth.
A statement issued in Accra on Monday said the council was aware of reports of the destruction of offices and looting of warehouses related to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in a number of locations.

“We are saddened by every incident of electoral violence and strongly condemn them. Each of our 16 Regional Peace Council (RPC) offices is working on the ground to restore peace across all regions of the nation,” the statement said.

At the regional level, it said its 16 regional chairmen and regional executive secretaries were closely monitoring those incidents and would continue to escalate them to the relevant Regional Inter-Party Advisory Committee (RIPAC), regional division of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Regional Security Council (REG SECs), and other relevant stakeholders as required.

“At the national level, the NPC continues to closely monitor these incidents, and will continue to escalate them to the Electoral Commission, the National Election Security Taskforce led by the Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant stakeholders as needed.”
It quoted the Chairman of the NPC, Rev. Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, as saying: “Our Regional Peace Councils (RPCs) continue to play a vital role on the ground in every one of Ghana’s 16 regions.
Our teams have been working tirelessly behind the scenes over the weekend to mediate and expedite resolutions and closure of many of the tragic incidents of electoral violence we have witnessed as a nation.”
