LaDMA launches 12-year plan to champion development

The La Dade-kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has launched a 12-year strategic plan to generate revenue and champion development for the municipality.

Launched in Accra last Tuesday, the plan outlines a long-term vision to transform LaDMA into a thriving, sustainable and digitally efficient municipality that works for all residents.

It tackles the constituency’s long-standing environmental and sanitation challenges, with flooding, waste management and climate resilience high on the agenda as the municipal assembly seeks to invest in sustainable drainage, cleaner waste systems and broader environmental conservation programmes.

The plan also has objectives to address issues covering various sectors such as health, education, job creation, cultural heritage, safety and security and vulnerability.

It also has a target to create over 5,000 decent jobs, deliver improved infrastructure, expand essential services, digitise 70 per cent of its service delivery and build a more modern, responsive and accountable governance system.

Launch

The plan was launched on the theme: “Shaping our destiny: a roadmap for transformation and prosperity”.

The event also saw the unveiling of a new logo for the municipal assembly.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive of LaDMA, Alfredos Nii Anyetei, commended his predecessor, Solomon Kottey Nikoi, for mooting the idea.

He explained that the plan was a result of months of thoughtful consultation, data-driven planning and inclusive dialogue with stakeholders across all sectors of the municipality.

“The plan reflects a collective vision, forged by the voices of our citizens, guided by our traditional authorities, inspired by our youth and backed by the technical expertise of our technocrats and development partners,” he said.

“It is not just a document; it is our blueprint for transformation, our collective commitment to pursue a stronger, smarter and more inclusive community,” Mr Anyetei added.

Specifically, the MCE said the municipal assembly was committed to upgrading educational infrastructure, expanding access to primary healthcare and strengthening support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to unleash innovation and create sustainable jobs.

Mr Anyetei called on government, private sector, civil society, traditional leaders and the people of La to walk with the municipal assembly in implementing the targets, adding, “Let us own this plan. Let us fund it. Let us monitor it. Let us implement it together”.

Development

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, mentioned some challenges faced by the municipality, including inadequate infrastructure, poor drainage and urban sprawl.

As a result, she said it was important for consistent implementation of development plans.

The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the municipal assembly in its long-term planning agenda.

“Let this launch serve as a beacon of hope for all assemblies,” she added, calling for collective efforts to turn the vision into reality.
