MPs, DCEs must work together — Dr Nyarko

The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr Kingsley Kwasi Nyarko, has called for a closer collaboration between District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) for the development of their communities.

In that regard, he said DCEs and MPs should not antagonise each other but come together for the good of the people.

Needs

At a town hall meeting to interact with the constituents, Dr Nyarko said so far, reports from the town hall meetings showed that the main needs of the constituents were jobs, roads, security and markets for traders.

He said the issues were the same everywhere the team had visited and it was time a drastic solution was found to address youth unemployment.

He said the need for jobs called for a closer collaboration between the MP and the DCE to find innovative ways of creating jobs for the teeming youth.

According to him, infrastructural development could serve as a form of job creation for the youth and appealed that contractors from the constituency should be engaged on such projects.

He explained that mostly when the contractors came from outside the area, they came with their own people and the jobs that residents could do were taken away from them.

Security

Commenting on insecurity in the area, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Mr Richmond Agyenim Boateng, encouraged the communities to form neighbourhood watch committees to patrol the areas to assist the police.

He said even though the municipality had four district police stations, the personnel were not enough to go round the entire municipality and would need the support of the residents.

He said the assembly was ready to support the watch committees to undertake their work and pleaded with the landlords and the residents to contribute to equip the committees in their work.

On development, Mr Boateng said since becoming an assembly, Kwadaso could be described as the best performing assembly in the region as it had been able to undertake lots of projects.

According to him, becoming an assembly had really helped Kwadaso also improve on its infrastructural development.

He said with the exception of the main roads, the town roads were in deplorable conditions and would need to be tarred.

The MP presented a number of hand sanitisers, LED bulbs and street lights to the Assembly Member of the area, Mrs Mavis Afriyie Opoku Gyau, for distribution to the residents.
