Ayawaso Central NDC polls: Man arrested for rowdy behavior

One person has been arrested at the Kotobabi Wembley Park at Ayawaso Central over rowdy behaviour.

The unidentified delegate was causing commotion at the park where National Democratic Congress (NDC) members are voting to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections.

He was trying to push his way inside the park in spite of police advice not to do so, a delegate told Graphic Online.

“In the morning, there was almost a stampede because everybody wanted to vote and leave but now sanity has prevailed because we are controlling the gates and only those in the queue and allowed to enter the park,” a police officer who asked not to be named because she didn’t have authority to speak to the media said.

The source declined to comment on the arrested delegate, directing Graphic Online to the Kotobabi Police Station where the suspect is being held.

Outside the park however, there is a long queue at the gate with the police allowing only branches whose turn it was to vote to enter the premises.

The two candidates gave thumbs up for the process so far saying it had been peaceful and smooth.

The Presiding Officer the elections, Mr Gladstone Agboada, said the excercise started around 8am because the canopies were not fixed on time.

He, however said voting had been peaceful with police officers doing their best.

As at 3.30pm 925 out of 1,286 voters have cast their ballots for their two aspirants- Mr Abdul Rauf Musah and Mr Victor Quarshie Adonu.
