NPP Election Review Committee submits report to NEC

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially received the report from the 11-member committee tasked with investigating the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

Speaking to journalists after the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Accra yesterday,  the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, announced that the report had been submitted by the committee chaired by Rev. Prof. Mike Oquaye, following weeks of consultations and investigations.

Mr Kodua added that the NEC had further constituted a nine-member committee who would review the report, particularly with emphasis on where issues or proposals or amendments are to be made to the NPP’s constitution before the details would be made public.

The report was presented to the NEC Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who is also the National Chairman of the NPP.

"Today, the committee led by Rev. Prof. Mike Oquaye submitted their report to the National Council and they accepted the report but there are several steps we need to take as a political party," he said.

He continued, "In the coming days, whatever we have to bring out to discuss or to communicate to our supporters, our members and the rank and file of our party, we will do so."

Mr Kodua also cautioned party supporters against spreading misinformation about the report, and urged members to refrain from making accusations or apportioning blame on social media on the party’s electoral loss.

"In the coming days, whatever we have to bring out to discuss or to communicate to our supporters, our members and the rank and file of our party, we will do so.

We want to caution members of our party not to be in a haste to say things which are not even in the report and for people to make several assumptions and to make accusations and counter accusations on social media or in the media.

There is only one report and that report is with the National Council so at the right time, the details will be communicated to the public," he stressed.

Thank you tour

He also announced that the party would embark on a thank you tour to the various regions to express gratitude to God and to acknowledge the unwavering support and commitment shown by party members.

"Let's take notice of that, and again, as part of the deliberations at the National Council, the party will be embarking on a thank you tour next week which we refer to as giving thanks to God in all things."

"We are showing appreciation to the Almighty God for the elections.

Though it didn't go in our favour, we are going round to show our appreciation to the rank and file of our party.

There will be a thanksgiving service - a Christian and a Muslim thanksgiving service," he added.

Background

In January this year, the NPP formed an 11-member committee to investigate the party's defeat in the 2024 general election.

The committee was chaired by Prof. Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament.

The decision was made during a NEC meeting in January and chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim.

The committee’s mandate was to assess the factors that contributed to the NPP’s defeat and recommend strategies for rebuilding the party and preparing for future elections.

It engaged stakeholders, including party members, grassroots supporters and political analysts to ensure a thorough review.
