Parliament to adjourn sine die Friday

Parliament is expected to adjourn sine die on Friday, December 19, 2025, for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Majority Leader and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has said.

Presenting the Business Statement for the ninth week ending Friday, December 19, 2025, on the floor of Parliament last Friday, Mr Ayariga, who is also the Chairman of the Business Committee, urged Chairpersons of Committees to treat all pending referrals with the urgency deserved and report on same expeditiously.

The Majority Leader, who is also Leader of Government Business in Parliament, used the opportunity to commend the Speaker, Deputy Speakers and all MPs for the sacrifice and devotion to the business of the House throughout the meeting.

“The Committee looks forward to a smooth discharge of the business proposed for the last week of the meeting before the House adjourns sine die”, he added.

Questions

Within the week under review, eight Ministers of State have been programmed to appear before the House to answer 41 questions.

They are the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Minister of State in Charge of Public Sector Reforms, Minister of Roads and Highways, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Statements

The Majority Leader said pursuant to Order 91(2), Ministers of State would also be permitted to make statements on government policies, while statements from MPs may also be admitted in accordance with Order 93.

He stated that bills, papers and reports would also be presented to the House for first reading in accordance with Order 159, adding that those of urgent nature may be taken through the various stages in a day in accordance with Order 160.

“Pursuant to Order 97, papers may be laid during the week and reports from Committees may also be presented to the House for consideration. Mr Speaker, Motions, may be debated, and their consequential resolutions, if any, taken during the week,” Mr Ayariga said.

Among the MPs who would make statements on the floor of Parliament during the week under review are the NDC MP for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe on domestic violence; NDC MP for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso on Volta Lake Disaster, and New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Nhyeaso, Dr Stephen Amoah on making entrepreneurship part of the country’s basic and senior high schools academic curricula.
