Ghana’s reputation hinges on 2016 elections — Akufo-Addo

He has, therefore, called on all to ensure free and fair elections to guarantee the peace and stability in the country.

 Socio-economic transformation

Nana Akufo-Addo said this when he hosted a cocktail for the media at his Nima residence as part of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He stressed that 2016 would be a critical year for the country, and that the media had a great role to play as Ghana strengthened its democracy and the socio economic transformation of the country.

He said the NPP’s objective of repealing the criminal label law had largely been met as the media in the country was vibrant in playing a leading role in stimulating development and unearthing corruption in the country.

He added that spinning had its limitations and no amount of spinning could wash away the reality, which is an economy in disarray which is staring Ghanaians in the face.

The flag bearer, therefore, commended the media for staying with the issue of corruption in the re-branding of Metro Mass buses and observed that because the media stayed with the story, the government had to  beat a retreat.

 Private pockets

He said the media should continue to expose corruption because the taxpayer’s money was being siphoned into private pockets at an alarming rate and media watchdog role was critical and onerous in exposing corruption to bring the canker under control.

The presidential candidate said the NPP would stop the spinning and the economic disarray which had resulted in International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.

Nana Akufo-Addo promised to pursue vigorous socio-economic transformation by avoiding wastage in public expenditure and massive corruption.

He cited the case of Cote d’Ivoire, which is undergoing significant economic transformation and upturn, and said Ghana was also capable of achieving more with the prevailing peace it is enjoying.

 Delegates congress

On internal party wranglings, he said what happened at the Sunyani Delegates Congress of the NPP gave hope to members that the party would come out stronger than before to win the 2016 general election.

He described the happenings as regrettable and called on members to put them behind them.

The Director of Communications of the NPP, Nana Akomea, urged Ghanaians to be wary of politicians and their activists who would go round campaigning that “when NPP comes to power the tainted status quo is not going to change and it will be business as usual and corruption.”

 Eschewing corruption

He stressed that the difference between the two governments would be far apart as Nana Akufo-Addo would bring on board a new type of leadership that would eschew corruption and the debauchery that had engulfed the ruling NDC.

Nana Akomea also urged Ghanaians to be on their guard in this era of social media since most of the stories on social media were planted there by faceless people.
