Govt insensitive to plight of Ghanaians — AFAG
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has accused the government of insensitivity towards the plight of Ghanaians.

‘’In the wake of Government's insensitivity towards the plight of Ghanaians, AFAG and the good people of this country will on Thursday, November 6, 2014, take to the streets to bare our teeth against the enormous corruption perpetuated and supervised by the NDC government,” the ’Chairman of AFAG, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, declared at a press conference on Tuesday.
According to Dr Afriyie, AFAG would gather their members and other interested persons to demonstrate against the government since it was not being transparent and decisive.
He said the demonstration had as its theme, “Aagbe wo” – meaning “We are being killed.”
“Because of corruption, you and myself have been deprived of resources that belong to the common goal,” he said.
Dr Afriyie said, for example, that the cost of the interchange project at Kwame Nkrumah Circle originally was €46million’’ but we are being made to understand it’s €78million.’’
He said likewise, the interchange approved to be constructed at Kasoa was going to cost $174million while the experts said it would cost only $32million. “There is mass corruption all over,’’ he said.
“When AFAG asked them to reduce the cost of fuel prices in this country two weeks ago, barely two days after, they reduced it by two per cent, that’s an insult,” Dr Afriyie said.
He said corruption had become more of the norm than exception as no week passed without another act of corruption under the government of NDC being exposed.
He said AFAG would continue talking about the high level of indecision, the lack of principles of transparency and accountability under the President John Mahama-led NDC government until laid-down principles were adhered to by the government.
‘’This NDC government has left a huge stock of debt without value for money or capital investments,’’ Dr Afriyie alleged.
He said what was more intriguing is the approval of $168 million loan three weeks ago for extension works on the already inflated Circle project, asking what kind of extension was worth more than the N1 highway from Tetteh-Quarshie to Mallam.
