Dr Ato Arthur said the best and safest legacy parents could leave for their children was education because knowledge and skills acquired through education could never be taken away from them.

Speaking at the annual Mpontu Festival of the chiefs and people of Kokwaado, near Kissi in the KEEA Municipal in the Central Region, Dr Ato Arthur said children whose fathers had died were often deprived of properties they had helped their fathers to acquire.

He said in most cases, such children were abandoned to their fate by the next of kin who succeeded their deceased father.

He added that if such children were not educated, then they would be left in a state of squalor and poverty, whereas if they had education the situation would have been different since no one could take the knowledge and skills they acquired through education.

He recounted instances where parents spent all they had on the education of their children and were now reaping the benefits of their investments and therefore urged parents to strive to educate their children to ensure their sustained livelihoods.

The MP presented GH¢500 and donated street lights to the community.

The Omankrado of Kokwaado, Nana Kwodwo Nyarkoh III, in his welcome address, advised the people to make the necessary sacrifices for the development of the community.

Nana Nyarkoh said the community—through fundraising and contributions—had been able to complete a community centre and a day care and urged the people to continue to support him in the development of the area.

He said the community would need the support of the Member of Parliament and the KEEA Municipal Assembly to construct feeder roads in the area to help evacuate farm produce to avoid post-harvest losses and boost the income of farmers.

The Chief of Benyadze, Nana Kwamena Wi II, who chaired the function, commended the people for their communal spirit which had boosted the development of the community.

The Assembly member for the area, Mr Francis Eduabe said the assembly would support the community in its sanitation programmes.
