MP supports throat cancer victim

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea-Huni Valley, Mr Francis Koffie Adu-Blay, has presented a cheque for GH¢2, 000 to Mr John Kwame Blaychie, a 47-year-old unemployed man suffering from throat cancer, to enable him to undergo a second surgery at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in the Central Region.

The offer by the MP to a member of his constituency who could hardly speak and breathe, followed an appeal made by his wife, Mrs Veronica Blaychie, for an immediate assistance to her husband, who would need a total of GH¢5,000 from public-spirited individuals and corporate bodies.

Mr Blaychie was first diagnosed at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi in January this year, after which he was referred to Cape Coast for special attention but would need the amount before he could be operated upon.

Dr P. Appiah-Thompson, a specialist at the Ear, Nose and Throat Department at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, explained that the man’s condition was ‘‘Progressive unremitting hoarseness of voice with difficulty in breathing.’’

Making the presentation through the Prestea Branch of the Church of Christ in the Prestea-Huni-Valley District in the Western Region, the MP noted that the absence of jobs in the country had been the bane of the youth, who now engaged in all forms of activities for survival, including illegal gold mining (galamsey).

He expressed the hope that other people would show concern about the plight of the suffering man to enable him to complete the surgery to regain his health.

Pastor James Kwaako of the church, who received the cheque, thanked Mr Adu-Blay for his kind gesture.
