NDC accuses NPP of engaging in tribal politics in quest to discredit voters register
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it is poised to make meaningful contributions to ensure further gains in the electoral processes in its effort to implement policies and programmes to transform the country.

It asked the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to find an antidote to the string of poor showings at the polls by soberly reflecting on how to pull the party from the brink and halt its rapid descent into chaos and internecine feud.
According to the party, the present state of affairs in the NPP, where confusion, mistrust and incessant squabbles reign supreme, could not be masked by baseless fault-finding of the sort by the party.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who said this at a press conference in Accra yesterday to react to issues raised by the NPP last Tuesday, accused the NPP of demonstrating affinity to tribal politics and showing disdain for the people of the Volta and the Brong Ahafo regions.
Claims lacked merit
The NPP, at a press conference last Tuesday, had called for the compilation of a new voters register to replace the existing one, pointing out, among other things, that there was overwhelming evidence that the current register was seriously flawed and bloated.
According to the party, investigations conducted by a team pointed to the fact that there could not be free, fair, transparent and credible elections in the country with the old register.
Reacting to the claims at yesterday’s press conference, Mr Asiedu Nketia asked the NPP to concern itself with the selection of a viable presidential candidate, craft a convincing message and build a strong cohesive party machinery to prosecute a credible campaign.
He said the claims by the party lacked merit and could not constitute a basis for the compilation of a new voters register.

“A cursory assessment of the claims reveals a desperate attempt by a party bedevilled by strife, deep division, violence and general lawlessness to prepare the grounds for a rejection of their imminent defeat in the 2016 elections.
“It is the latest instalment in a series of efforts to shift blame onto others whenever their incompetent and mediocre campaigns bring them defeat at elections.
“In our view, the press conference addressed by Dr Mahamadu Bawumia bore an uncanny resemblance to the hoopla that preceded their filing of a petition at the Supreme Court purporting to challenge the validity of the victory chalked up by President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the 2012 elections,” he stated.
Bloated register deeply flawed
Mr Asiedu Nketia said the argument that Ghana’s voter population of 14 million indicated a bloated register was deeply flawed because the use of the 2010 population of 25 million as a basis for determining what percentage of that population should be on the register ignored population growth between 2010 and 2012.
