Nana Akufo-Addo, who is expected to announce his political future on his return, requested his supporters and sympathisers to remember him in their prayers as he begins what he describes as a "political time out."

Earlier at the Main Hall of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at Osu in Accra where he addressed the Greater Accra branch of the party, he told the gathering:  “What I would like to say is that, for me, the welfare and progress of the NPP is the important thing on my heart.

As I have said, I am going away for some time to reflect and see what way forward our Maker has for me but in my absence I have asked Dr Bawumia to accompany the National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, to the regions to express my gratitude to all in like manner. Forgive me if you don’t hear my voice in your regions but know that my heart will be there.”

He explained that even though he would be away and would not be able to attend similar thank you meetings in the nine other regional capitals, he had delegated his running mate and second petitioner Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to represent him at the various meetings to convey his gratitude to the party in the other regions.

“The other important thing remaining after thanking the Lord is to thank all those who helped in the last campaign and the over five million Ghanaians who voted for us, at least according to the declaration of the EC. This is what we are beginning in Accra today,” he told the gathering.

“On behalf of all, I thank everybody, the regional, constituency and polling station executives, all volunteer groups and everyone who helped in any way for the hard work and the sense of responsibility. But my greatest thanks goes to the people of Ghana, the over five million who voted for us,” he stated.
