In line with this, the PNC is preparing towards electing officers for the polling station, constituency, regional and national levels next year. This will culminate in the presidential primary to elect the party’s flag bearer for the 2016 polls.

This was disclosed by Mr Mohammed Atik, Policy Analyst of the party, while sharing an insight into the party’s activities with the Daily Graphic.

He said at their recently held National Executive Council meeting to discuss the performance of the party in the 2012 election and the way forward for the 2016 elections, it was agreed that the PNC should hold an early national delegates congress.

Mr Mohammed further disclosed that it was agreed that polling station and constituency elections be held early in January 2015 and the elections concluded by February 2015.

That, he said,  would pave the way for all regional elections in March and April, to be followed in May by the national congress, where national officers and the standard bearer of the party would be elected.

All these are aimed at positioning the party in a better stead to improve its fortunes in coming elections, the policy analyst stated.

He also disclosed that as a result of the NEC meeting and the call for early congress, many interested aspirants had begun touring the constituencies to meet possible delegates.

He said the tours were contributing to the revival of the structures of the party at the lower levels, so the party was getting active again.

PNC/CPP talks

Concerning the PNC/CPP unity talks, Mr Mohammed said the discussion was ongoing and the two parties had been asked to organise their parties at the grass roots level so that when the parties finally merged, they would have strong base upon which to operate.
