Relief items have not been diverted — MCE
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA), Mr Aristo Aryee, has discounted claims by sections of the media that the assembly has diverted relief items meant for victims of the flood disaster in the area.
He explained that the assembly only gave the items to those who were affected by the flood, and not some staff of the assembly.
“When the incident happened, the assembly took note of every resident in the municipality, including some of our staff members whom we learnt were affected by the incident,” he said.
Mr Aryee was reacting to reports in sections of the media that the assembly was distributing relief items meant for the flood victims to its staff.
Presentation
The assembly distributed assorted items and cash to the victims.
Each of the families affected was presented with GH₵50 cash, two bags of rice, three student mattresses, two wash basins and a box of washing soap.
They were also given two buckets each, a box of Frytol cooking oil, plastic cups and plates, mosquito nets and blankets.
Mr Aryee expressed sympathy and condolences to the victims and bereaved families over their loss.
He was accompanied by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr Charles Kotey, and the Municipal Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Kwame Asare Obeng.
Beneficiaries show appreciation
The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the MCE and the assembly for the support.
Mrs Caroline Dede Ankrah, grandmother of one of the deceased, could not hold back her tears. She expressed her gratitude to the assembly, stressing that the items would go a long way to help with their upkeep.
