Six names have popped up as possible replacement for Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manhyia South parliamentary ticket.
This follows Dr Prempeh’s nomination for the position of running mate to the flag bearer for the December 2024 elections.

Graphic Online’s Kwadwo Baffoe Donkor reports from Kumasi that the six names that have popped up are Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the younger brother of the incumbent MP, Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Kwabena Addo Amankwah, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi and Nana Tima, the only female among them.
It is unclear as of now if they have all expressed interest in the vacant slot or it is some party members who are pushing for them to enter the race.
Their posters have however been shared on social media.
Before his nomination and confirmation by the National Council of the NPP, Dr Prempeh, who is the current Member of Parliament for the area, was elected unopposed by NPP delegates in 2023.
He has been representing the people of Manhyia South since January 2009 and was making his fifth attempt at the seat.
Timelines
The national office of the NPP has given a one week window to conduct an internal by election to select a new aspirant for the ticket and per the guidelines, all aspiring candidates have between Monday, July 8 and Tuesday July 9, to pick and submit their nomination forms and go through vetting on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
