"Special voters" vote first at the Adentan Constituency

Voting started at exactly 7:05 am at the Ashaley Botwe Little Roses Polling Station in the Adentan Constituency and security officers who could not cast their ballot during the special voting excercise were given the opportunity to vote ahead of other voters who had formed queues since yesterday.

According to Mr Edwin Kumassah, the Presiding Officer for the area, the arrangement to allow security officers to vote first was to allow them (the security officers) to embark on their electoral duties without delays.

Prior to the commencement of the process this morning, constituents, who had earlier formed queues with chairs, gallons and stones were briefed on the arrangement for the security personnel which they agreed.

As at 10am, a total of 337 out of the 1,877 registered voters had cast their ballot at the Center which is divided into A (966) and B (911), transferred voters numbered 37 while absent voters were 9.

"We got here early to set up to avoid delays and as you can see voting is going on in an orderly manner. The people have comported themselves and I pray it continues to the end", said Mr Kumassah.

There was a similar story at the Calvary Presby Church Polling Center where voters had formed long and winding queues waiting anxiously for their turn to cast their ballot.

The Center, which is divided into four - A1, A2, B1 and B2 had 2,424 registered voters but only 704 had voted as at 11 am.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, one of the Presiding Officers at the venue, Samuel Tetteh Ologo, said he was confident all the electorates would get the opportunity to exercise their franchise by close of day at 5pm.

Also at the St. Francis R/C Primary School, some 2,829 registered voters were expected to vote but as as 11:30 am a total of 780 people had voted.

Like the Calvary Presby Church Polling Station, the St Francis R/C Primary was divided into A1, A2, B1 and B2.

Mr Emmanuel Akakpo, a Presiding Officer at Center A1 said the process had been peaceful so far adding that the division of the Polling Station into four had facilitated the work of the EC Officials.

"We have not seen any challenges so far. Our verification machines are working and almost everybody who had been here today saw their names in the register. It is good they divided the Center into four because the queues are moving faster", he noted.
