Tamale Central by-election: NDC announces guidelines for primary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced guidelines and timelines for the conduct of its parliamentary primary ahead of the Tamale Central Constituency by-election in the Northern Region.

In a statement signed and issued by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party outlined the processes for nominations, filing, vetting and the conduct of elections, stressing that all aspirants and stakeholders must abide by the directives.

Nomination

It said nomination forms would be available at the Northern Regional Office of the party from Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

A filing fee of GH¢40,000 has been set for aspirants, while the cost of the nomination form is GH¢5,000, to be paid in cash upon collection.

The party has, however, granted a 50 per cent concession on the filing fee for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities.

“All payments must be made directly into the party’s designated UMB account at the Adabraka branch.

No cheques or bankers’ drafts will be accepted,” the statement read.

Call for discipline

The party indicated that a certified copy of the delegates’ list would be made available to aspirants after vetting.

Therefore, vetting, balloting, and appeals have been scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2025.

The elections would then take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The statement urged all aspirants and stakeholders to conduct their campaigns with discipline and mutual respect.

“The party urges all prospective aspirants and stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with these directives and to conduct their campaigns and related activities with decorum, unity, and fairness,” it read.

The Tamale Central seat became vacant following the death of the Member of Parliament, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in a military helicopter crash on August 6 ,  2025.
