The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, was said to have indicated on a local radio that Mr Amponsah had been nominated by the President as the MCE for Techiman.

That information by the regional minister spread like wild fire in the municipality, leading to a violent demonstration by some youth in the community at Techiman.

However, a military patrol team quickly intervened to contain the demonstration, which could have degenerated into violence.

According to the police, one policeman who was among a group of policemen who had been detailed to contain the demonstration was attacked by the irate youth.

Some members of staff of the Techiman Municipal Assembly who got wind of the demonstration by the Zongo youth fled their offices for fear of being attacked.

At the time of filing this report at about 6.04 p.m. yesterday, there was an uneasy calm in the municipality.

Some Zongo chiefs and opinion leaders have appealed to the demonstrating youth to exercise restraint and this was said to have calmed the situation.

At a press conference organised by the Zongo caucus of the NDC at Techiman, the spokesperson of the group, Mr Suleman Mohammed Mustapha, said information gathered by the group indicated that the President had not nominated Mr Amponsah as the MCE for Techiman.

He, therefore, appealed to the regional minister to withdraw his statement and apologise for his action, otherwise, he would face the wrath of the group.
