Upper East Regional NDC chairman retains position

The incumbent Upper East Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Bolnaba Mumuni, has been retained by delegates of the party in their regional executive elections held in Bolgatanga.

Alhaji Mumuni secured 104 votes to defeat his only contender, Alhaji Osman Akasum Alem, who had 64.

The incumbent Regional Secretary, Mr Akamugri Donatus, popularly referred to as 'Mugabe Secretary' for being the longest-serving secretary of the party in the region, also retained his position with 112, while his contenders, Mr Awuse Nicholas, Mr Sebia Martin Dittoh and Mr Agambire Paul  obtained 22, 25 and 1 vote respectively.

Alhaji Issah Mumuni became the Regional Treasurer when he obtained 59 votes to defeat Mr Japhet Akolgo Tanko, who had 15 votes, Mr Adagewine Fidela, 53 and Madam Fatima Dinko 38, while Mr Baba Kumasi was elected the Regional Organiser of the party with 111 votes as against Mr Akachawon and Mr Ibrahim Mutawakilu who had 10 and 44 votes each.

The regional propaganda position went to Mr Bernard Boaterik Bougzor, who secured  76 votes to defeat Mr Rockson Batamne Bukari and Alhaji Sa-eed Tijani who had 32 and 59 votes respectively.

Earlier elections:

The party had earlier conducted elections for the positions of youth organisers and women organisers which was won by the incumbent youth organiser, Mr Robert Yeli-Oni, who secured 40 votes to defeat Mr Albert Akanmiim Agariga and Mr Atinbeok Danlaadi Paul, who had nine and zero votes respectively, while Madam Faustina Abagrey went unopposed for the women's organiser position.

The elections, which were supervised by the Electoral Commission, went on peacefully without a single  incident.
