Ursula Owusu-Ekuful joins NPP General Secretary contest
Former Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has declared her intention to contest for the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a post on Facebook, she appealed to party members for their support, saying, “I come to you in all humility, to ask you, dear patriots, to join me on this rescue mission as your next General Secretary.”
She noted that with the 2028 general election fast approaching, the NPP must reposition itself to regain the trust of Ghanaians and effectively represent the change the country needs.
“December 2028 is soon upon us, and by which time the good people of Ghana and us all, as it is today, will remain in dire need for change. That is why we need to re-shape, re-organise, and put ourselves in a good place to effectively represent the desired change and restore the belief of Ghanaians in us as the institutors of growth and development,” she said.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful emphasised that the NPP remains a united family with a shared vision of reclaiming power and advancing national progress.
“Across the country and the diaspora, the NPP family comes together as one big family, bound together in unison by the cohesive purpose hinged on an innate desire to re-capture power and do better for ourselves and for mother Ghana. This remains the ultimate resolve of the party. This remains the ultimate resolve of Ghanaians. It remains the ultimate resolve of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful,” she added.
Justin Kodua Frimpong is the incumbent General Secretary of the NPP. It is not clear as of now if he will seek re-election. But last week, a former Member of Parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi declared his interest to contest the General Secretary position.
The NPP for now is concentrating on the presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026 after which, it will start re-organising elected positions from polling stations through constituencies, regional and national.
