Zongo Group criticizes NDC Leaders for vulgar campaign against Bawumia

A prominent advocacy group, the Zongo Movement for Development, has sharply criticized National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders, including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and former Ambassador Alhaji Said Sinare, for what it says has been a "vulgar campaign" against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a statement signed by its President Alhaji Habib Cissey and General Secretary, Isiaku Isah, the group expressed outrage over the use of "unprintable" language by these NDC leaders when addressing Zongo communities, targeting Dr. Bawumia, whom they referred to as a "proud son of the Zongo."

The group accused the NDC of abandoning constructive political discourse in favour of personal attacks.

"Rather than showing the people of Zongo respect and telling us the record of former President Mahama in the Zongos, the NDC has chosen the brutish path of launching insulting attacks on Dr. Bawumia," the statement read.

The Zongo Movement for Development highlighted specific instances of such behaviour, noting that Fiifi Kwetey, NDC General Secretary, had previously used derogatory language against Dr. Bawumia in northern Ghana. Alhaji Sinare, a respected figure within Muslim circles, was also criticized for what the group called "un-Islamic" attacks on the Vice President.

The group further condemned Johnson Asiedu Nketia for allegedly insulting Dr. Bawumia on national television and for continuing to insult him during campaign meetings with Zongo communities.

In their statement, the group urged the NDC to focus on presenting their record, particularly in Zongo communities, rather than resorting to personal attacks.

They emphasized that the upcoming 2024 elections should be about "records and issues" and called on the NDC to explain their achievements in the Zongos during former President Mahama's tenure, rather than making personal attacks the centerpiece of their campaign.
