Essien seals Milan move

Michael Essien completed his move from Chelsea to AC Milan after signing an 18-month contract with the Italian giants Monday.

Both Chelsea and Milan announced via their official Twitter accounts that the transfer had been sealed, with the San Siro side stating that the Ghana international would be presented to the media today.

Essien, 31, penned a contract with the Rossoneri which runs until June 2015, in a deal reportedly worth €1.25m for the current campaign and €2.5m next season.

He will also earn a €500,000 bonus for UEFA Champions League qualification.

An excited Essien later took to Twitter to express his delight at the move.

“Just signed my contract to join one of the best clubs in the world. I’m very happy and looking forward to winning with the team,” tweeted the midfielder.

Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, paid tribute to Essien on the club’s official website: “To show Michael respect is to not stop him going. 

“I know he can continue to play at a high level and I wish him success and happiness in Italy and at the World Cup in Brazil.”

After finalising the deal,Milan chief executive, Adriano Galliani, revealed the club had been "chasing" Essien "for a few months", with compatriot Sulley Muntari proving instrumental in the former Chelsea man’s decision to make the move to the San Siro.
