Ghana wallop Ethiopia as Black Satellites bang in four

An energetic Black Satellites side Monday afternoon silenced their Ethiopian counterparts by thrashing them 4-0 in the return leg of next year’s U-20 African Youth Championship Qualifiers.

The Black Satellites, who had lost the first leg by Addis Ababa by 2:1, thus qualify by a 5:2 aggregate.

The Ghanaians gave their opponents, the Young Walias, no breathing space at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium as they ran amok from the blast of the whistle in search of goals.

France-based Yaw Yeboah, flown in to beef up the side after the first leg loss, proved a handful and smashed in the opener after only 6 minutes with a goal that left the Ethiopian goalie Teklemarian Shango and his defenders bemused.

Three minutes later, Dauda Mohammed doubled the goals as the Black Satellites held high their guard, buoyed by a cheering crowd. In their haste, they squandered some good chances though but they continued the onslaught with Yaw Yeboah and Evans Mensah leading most of the forays into the half of the Ethopians.

Evans Mensah's untiring efforts eventually paid off in the 57 minute when he slid one behind the Ethiopian goalie to make it 3-0, before Yaw Yeboah sealed the win firmly in the 75th minute with the fourth goal after he directed a free kick directly into the net for a brace.

In a post-match interview, Yaw Yeboah said the team had built up their confidence for the match and had stuck to the tactical plan of coach Mas-Ud-Didi Dramani and that they were happy with the win.

Mas-Ud-Didi Dramani hinted he would work to beef up the squad and make it a much better team for their upcoming matches.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, June 12 but was rained off.
