Kotoko, AshGold in super clash tomorrow

Ashantigold’s early season heroics seem to have run out since the turn of the year, for which reason the miners will be seeking a desperate win in their seventh attempt when they travel to the Baba Yara Stadium tomorrow to engage a wounded Kumasi Asante Kotoko side.

Coach Bashir Hayford’s Ashantigold last won a game in the First Capital Plus Premier League when they beat Hasaacas 1-0 on December 1 last year. Since then they have merely mustered draws against Bechem United, Berekum Chelsea and Inter Allies, while losing in the second round to Bechem United, Chelsea and Hasaacas, resulting in their plummeting from second to fourth.

However, against leaders Kotoko, Ashgold face the wrath of a team that surprisingly lost 0-1 to King Faisal and in the process handed rivals Accra Hearts of Oak the initiative to etch into a 12-point lead. 

A win for Didi Draman’s charges in front of home-support would go a long way to kill off a late surge from competitors for the title.

Ashgold last completed the double over the Porcupine Warriors in 2007, and a win tomorrow would end that run after the reverse fixture ended 2-0 in favour of the miners.

This afternoon, bottom-placed Inter Allies could grab the opportunity to lift themselves from the foot of the table, albeit temporarily, if they beat Liberty Professionals at the Tema Park.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Mohammed Polo continues the quest for his first home win when Hearts play Amidaus Professionals at the Accra Stadium.

New Edubiase United welcome giant-killers, Faisal, to the Gyamfi Park, and Hasaacas clash with Heart of Lions at the Sekondi Stadium in Essipon.
