New AFCON changes will benefit African stars

Tony Baffoe, a FIFA and CAF General Co-ordinator, says the changes in the date for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will benefit both players and African football and bring harmony between Africa and European football.

He believes also, that the increment in the number of teams to participate in the AFCON will inure to the benefit of the ‘emerging’ teams on the continent, who often miss out on the competition, due to the difficult qualifying campaign.

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan says he joined Kayserispor to help the club win trophies and not to compete for individual honours.

BGC, GTA maintain momentum in cricket league

BGC and GTA both kept their places in the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League after victories over Dilmah and City CC respectively at the Achimota Cricket Oval over the weekend.

BGC, playing Dilmah on Oval A, had to bat first after winning the toss. Their innings recorded 163-7 with James Vifah scoring Half a century (50), off 57 balls. In the bowling figures, Renju took 3-35 in six overs while Mukesh took 2-31 in six overs.

Premier League goes on break - But Kotoko to host

Hearts August 6 THE Ghana Premier League is to go on a month’s break and resume on August 27 to allow the quarter finals of the MTN FA Cup to be honoured, as well as pave way for handlers of the Black Stars Team B to prepare adequately for the 2018 CAF CHAN qualifiers with Burkina Faso.

The Black Stars B Team, which is made up of players from the domestic league, will commence a one-week residential camping ahead of their two-leg qualifiers with Burkina Faso which will be played over a two-week period in August.
