2026 Commonwealth Games: Dave Bishop pledges GH¢1,000 each to Black Bombers

Bishop  Boxing Promotions (BBP) has announced a one-time financial package of GH¢1,000 for every officially registered member of Ghana’s boxing teams, Black Bombers and Black Hitters, that competed at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, in recognition of their service and commitment to the nation.

The initiative will benefit all 12 members of the  boxing contingent, including the 10 athletes (seven men, three women) and coaching staff led by head coach Ofori Asare and assistant Daniel Lartekwei Lartey, with payments scheduled to be completed by September 20, 2026.

The gesture comes after Ghana fielded a 10-member boxing team at the Commonwealth Games, where Amadu Mohammed emerged as the country’s only medalist in the fistic sport, claiming a bronze medal in the men’s 55kg (bantamweight) division after an impressive campaign.

According to BBP President/CEO, Dr Dave Bishop, the financial support is intended to help team members meet immediate financial obligations while reaffirming the promotion’s commitment to the welfare and long-term development of Ghanaian boxing.

The BBP chief praised the team’s dedication and sacrifice in representing the nation on one of sport’s biggest stages.

“You carried Ghana’s pride into the ring with courage and discipline.,” Dr Bishop acknowledged.

“This pledge is a small but firm way for Bishop Boxing Promotions to stand behind you as you represented our country. We salute your sacrifice and will continue to support your journey,” he said.

Under the arrangement, each eligible athlete and coach will receive a one-time payment of GH¢1,000 through Bishop Boxing Promotions’ established disbursement channels. Team members requiring alternative payment arrangements have been advised to contact the promotions office.

Bishop Boxing Promotions also reiterated its commitment to investing in the future of Ghanaian boxing through athlete welfare, improved training resources and broader development initiatives aimed at raising the standard of the sport.

The latest pledge has been welcomed as a timely show of appreciation for the Black Bombers, whose efforts in Glasgow were highlighted by Amadu Mohammed’s podium finish and the leadership of Coach Asare throughout the 11-day multi-sport competition.
