AfPC president: Sports training to build capabilities

The president of the Africa Paralympic Committee (AfPC), Samson Deen, is confident the AfPC training programme will help built the technical capabilities of the participants ahead of the hosting of the first Africa Para Games in the country in September.

He explained that the country was the second to be selected to host the training and was pleased with the opportunity by the Africa Paralympic Committee to select Ghana as host of the training.

“The AfPC programme is aimed at building and developing the technical capabilities of our NPCs across Africa, with a platoon of technical personnel to serve as the catalyst for the development and promotion of Para sports on the continent”, he said at the opening of the four-day event on Friday.

One hundred participants have been drawn from 15 Africa countries to undertake the Regional Sports training programme.

The participants are from countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritius, Sierra Leone, Togo, The Gambia, Liberia, Madagascar, Senegal, Nigeria, Seychelles, Guinea and Ghana.

While he welcomed the participants to the country for the event, the AfPC president, urged them to take the training seriously “to account for the purpose of coming here and leverage the sports in your respective countries”, he said.

He explained that the training will be organised in two sporting disciplines—Para Powerlifting and Para or Sitting Volleyball with six separate courses.
