Musah Ibrahim — Hearts of Oak

All Stars to end Hearts invincibility?

Undefeated premier league leaders, Accra Hearts of Oak, and high flying Wa All Stars will clash in the top-of-the table encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The nation’s oldest existing club top the league table with 13 points while the Wa-based side follow with 11 points, which makes this clash intriguing.

Hearts’ latest performance has come as a shock to most football faithful, as the club that narrowly escaped relegation last season have made a giant step that has helped transformed their fortunes for this season.

Wa All Stars find themselves in a must win scenario to move up the league log, and Hearts themselves who need victory to be able to open the gap at the top spot of the table in this fascinating tussle.

But the Phobians seem to be thriving in an unfamiliar situation where they have already announced their title aspirations by playing a more fearless, tenacious and dynamic style of football under their new Japanese boss, Kenichi Yatshuhashi.

Victory for either side would be a strong statement to the other big clubs in the league who must sit up.

Fortunately, the Accra Stadium is a terrain that seems favourable to the visitors who have managed three wins against Hearts out of the total eight matches played, with Hearts winning five. The Phobians conceded their heaviest defeat in 2014 when the Wa team beat them 3-0.

Despite Hearts’ fighting spirit this season, they have to guard against some players such as Wahidu Mumuni, Emmanuel Ocran, Richard Arthur, Mohammed Amando and Maxwell Baakoh who are very slippery and can cause havoc.

In other matches, Aduana Stars will host struggling Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Dormaa-Ahenkro, while there will be another cracking encounter between Dreams FC and WAFA at the Dawu Park.

Inter Allies will trek to Cape Coast to lock horns with Ebusua Dwarfs tomorrow (Saturday).

The Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman is where Liberty Professionals have promised to spell doom for Ashgold and at the T&A Park in Tarkwa, Medeama SC will hope to bounce back from their 0-1 to Berekum Chelsea in their midweek encounter to beat Bechem United.

Techiman City will trek to the Len Clay Stadium to play New Edubiase United, while Berekum Chelsea are confident to replicate their midweek victory when they play Sekondi Hasaacas at the Essipon Stadium.
