Ayew parts ways with Le Havre after heroic rescue mission
Ghanaian football icon Andre Ayew has officially parted ways with French Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre, bringing the curtain down on an emotional and inspiring chapter in his illustrious career.
The 35-year-old midfield general’s exit was confirmed by the club on Friday, August 1, in a touching statement that hailed his leadership, passion and unwavering commitment on and off the pitch.
"A warrior on the pitch, André Ayew set an example for all the Sky & Marine. He truly understood HAC, its fans, Le Havre, and its people. All the best, André," read the club’s farewell message.
After spells in England, Turkey and Qatar, Ayew made a surprise return to French football in November 2023, joining Le Havre mid-season. His leadership and experience proved vital as the club clawed its way to safety, prompting a contract renewal for the 2024/25 campaign.
Over two seasons, Ayew emerged as a linchpin in the Le Havre midfield, clocking up 27 appearances across all competitions in the 2024–25 campaign alone, scoring four goals and racking up 1,541 minutes of action. But his influence stretched well beyond the stats—he was the heartbeat of a side fighting tooth and nail to stay in Ligue 1.
In a heartfelt farewell shared on social media, Ayew reflected on an unexpected journey that blossomed into something truly special.
“The time to say goodbye has arrived. I hadn’t planned to wear this jersey, but the will of the club and its staff convinced me to take on this challenge,” he wrote.
“Objective achieved in the first season: it was the love, respect, emotions and fighting spirit of the people of Le Havre that pushed me to return for a second. I would like to thank the club, its directors, the staff, all the daily employees and, of course, my teammates: thank you for the efforts, the highlights, the solidarity and the respect. It was a real pleasure to share this locker room.”
Ayew leaves as more than just a player. He leaves as a fan favourite, a mentor and a symbol of resilience for a side that battled the odds and survived the French topflight.
