Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko: We have disappointed Ghanaians

Ibrahim Tanko, coach of Ghana's U-23 national team, the Black Meteors, has expressed his disappointment following their early exit from the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Despite accumulating four points from three games, Ghana fell short in their quest to advance to the next stage of the tournament. Their hopes were shattered on Friday night as they failed to secure a victory against Guinea, ultimately resulting in Guinea progressing while dashing the Black Meteors' aspirations of qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games.

Tanko, addressing the media in a post-match press conference, expressed his remorse over the team's performance, acknowledging that they had let down not only Ghanaians but also themselves. He added that despite the disappointment, they remain grateful to God in every situation and pledged to thoroughly analyze and identify areas that fell short.

“I think we disappointed Ghanaians and ourselves but we give thanks to God in every situation and like I said we will analyze and know what didn’t go well,” Tanko said in a post-match press conference.

Guinea emerged as the superior team, securing a 1-1 draw and advancing to the semi-finals alongside Group A leaders, Morocco. With both teams entering the match with three points, Guinea held the advantage with a superior goal difference, knowing that a draw would be sufficient to secure their progression.

Ghana's forward, Emmanuel Yeboah, capitalized on defensive errors by Guinea, showcasing his skills with an exceptional finish that gave Ghana the lead. However, Ghana's defensive struggles persisted, resulting in their conceding of the eighth goal in just three games. In the 60th minute, Ibrahima Breze's well-executed volley earned Guinea a well-deserved equalizer.
