Dwarfs will escape relegation — Coach Ogum

The newly-appointed coach of Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, Prosper Narteh Ogum, says his players’ self-belief is back to propel the team from the inhospitable region of the Ghana Premier League.

“Due to the difficult situation which was confronting the club, the players lost their self-belief and self-confidence and this affected the atmosphere in the team and so psychologically they were not there,” Coach Narteh Ogum told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

Coach Ogum, however, added, “I have been able to talk to the players to be effective and more thoughtful on the field of play” and this manifested in our match against Sekondi Hasaacas which we dominated but unfortunately lost.”

The new Dwarfs coach, who recently replaced veteran Coach J.E. Sarpong, has since drawn with Berekum Chelsea, lost to Sekondi Hasaacas and beaten in-form Aduana Stars 2-1 in their Week 14 league match at the Robert Mensah Stadium last Wednesday.

He was hopeful that his boys would carry on with the same spirit they exhibited against Hasaacas by showing much character and keep their calm in their subsequent matches.

“With the calibre of players we have, we are not supposed to be at the position we are now,” he stated, and appealed to the supporters of the club not to turn their back on the club in this trying period.

“They must turn up at the stadium in their numbers because this is the time the players need them most,” he stressed.

Dwarfs currently lie 15th on the league log with 13 points and will travel to Dansoman to play Liberty Professionals in their next encounter this weekend.
