Hearts, Dreams in cracker at Dawu as first round of league ends Sunday

The small Eastern Region town of Dawu will take centre stage again this Sunday when fast-fading Dreams FC engage in a match of their lives against high-flying Hearts of Oak at the Theatre of Dreams.

This thriller invokes fond memories of the pre-season friendly between the two sides at the same venue which ended 4-1 in favour of the Phobians.

However, real fireworks are expected to ignite Dawu this time round with both teams bent on finishing the first round on a high to impress their fans, especially after Hearts’ shocking 0-1 defeat to Liberty Professionals in their Accra derby yesterday. Obviously, Coach C.K. Akonnor and his Dreams FC squad will again be under more pressure to deliver as hosts against  the Phobians who perform better away and are also determined to finish the first half of the season on top of the table.

No wonder both teams have just been revamped with some new recruits to better their chances ahead of the much tougher second round of the league. At the end of the day, coaches Kenichi Yatsuhashi and Akonnor, who snatched maximum points from struggling New Edubiase at Obuasi yesterday, will have a lot to prove to convince their respective employers and supporters.

Fresh from their 0-1 loss to All Stars at Wa last Wednesday, Coach Michael Osei will fight hard to avoid a second straight defeat in a matter of days when Kotoko clash with stubborn Techiman City at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The only way for Kotoko to avoid an upset from Coach Yusif Abubakar’s men is to work overtime till the final blast of the whistle.

At Berekum, impressiive All Stars led by their chief tormentor, Richard Arthur, could pose a real threat to Chelsea in their close encounter quite akin to the Brong Ahafo derby involving shining Aduana Stars and Bechem United at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

On paper, Coach Cioaba Aristica looks set to improve their current build-up of 23 points in the top bracket against a Bechem United side which is perched at the 13th position with 15 points.

Fast-improving Medeama will make mince meat of bottom-placed New Edubiase in their duel at Tarkwa. Liberty Professionals will draw inspiration from their 1-0 victory over Hearts to dispatch lowly-placed Ebusua Dwarfs at Dansoman, while Hasaacas need to be wary of visiting Inter Allies at Essipon despite forcing a 1-1 draw away with Bechem United two days ago.

Defending champions Ashantigold, who are just five places from the bottom, have yet another tough assignment on hand against seventh-placed WAFA at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
