That was after the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament had been returned unopposed at the national delegates congress of the association.

The first Vice-Chairman, Nortey Dowuona, was also re-elected by popular acclamation after going unopposed.

The Headmaster of Bolgatanga Senior High School, Afelibiek Ababu, was also elected as the second Vice-Chairman of the association.

Mr Dzirasah, in his acceptance speech, vowed to turn the fortunes of the discipline around in his continuous policy of restructuring the game to assume a national character.

He called for a concerted effort to chart a new path for the game and promised to use his vast experience in the sport to upgrade the lot of coaches and referees, while propping up the youth to engage in handball.

Earlier, Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie was elected the new regional chairman for Greater Accra, with Kwame Kyeremanteng as his vice.

Mr Eric Sena Adjeyi was elected to the position of secretary, Ebenezer Mensah as treasurer and Nii Amu Ankrah as organiser.

The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority in charge of technical, Saka Acquaye, charged the newly elected executive to live above reproach and eschew all vices which could bring handball into disrepute.

He challenged them to give handball a new name other than the “lesser-known sport or least financed sporting discipline” as it is now known.

The election was superintended by the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Joe Kpenge.
