Manchester City suffered a setback in the Premier League title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by a spirited Everton at Goodsion Park.

David Silva was at the heart of the champions’ best work and he must have thought he had helped his side to all three points when his deflected shot was headed home by Fernandinho to break the deadlock with just over 15 minutes remaining.

But Roberto Martinez’s side roared back minutes later as Steven Naismith rose highest to head Leighton Baines’ brilliant free-kick past Joe Hart and into the bottom corner for a share of the spoils.

Diego Costa and Oscar made sure Newcastle paid for a wasteful first half hour, as Chelsea got a bit of revenge for December’s road loss with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

Newcastle threatened throughout the first half hour but couldn’t find a goal — including a Moussa Sissoko shot off the post — and Oscar broke the hearts of the traveling Geordies before Costa doubled the lead.

QPR's Richard Dunne exchanged angry words with a section of his own side's fans after the 2-1 defeat by Burnley.

The incident took place when defender Dunne, 35, and his team-mates went over to applaud the away end at Turf Moor, but boss Harry Redknapp denied any other players were involved.

Southampton picked up their first league victory over Manchester United in 27 years to move up to third in the table.

Louis van Gaal's side failed to have a single shot on target as their 10-match unbeaten run in the league was ended.

Dusan Tadic scored the only goal of the game when he tapped in calmly from 12 yards after Graziano Pelle's effort had come back off the far post.
