Financial Institutions must support sports

The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Vincent Asamoah, has urged financial institutions to support the lesser known sports in the country.

He stated that the Ministry had continued to collaborate with corporate bodies to enhance sports but appealed for more support from insitutions such as the National Investment Bank (NIB) to adopt particular sports and build their capacities to make them very dynamic and competitive internationally.

The deputy minister made the appeal when he welcomed marathon legend, Haile Gebreselassie, who had paid a courtesy call on Mr Ernest Mawuli Agbesi, the Managing Director of NIB ahead of last Saturday’s Millennium Marathon in Accra.

Mr Agbesi said it was a noble decision to sponsor the event that brought together many international athletes.
