A five-day FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course, the first of its kind to be held in Ghana in 12 years, commenced on Monday, August 3, at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium.
The course, being conducted under the auspices of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has brought together 39 participants, comprising 12 Nigerians and 27 Ghanaians, for intensive training in volleyball coaching.
The Ghanaian contingent is made up entirely of former players and enthusiasts of the sport, eager to transition from the court to the sidelines.
Facilitating the course is Mustafa Achuche, an experienced FIVB course instructor, who is taking the aspiring coaches through the rudiments of the game, including the fundamental techniques, tactical principles, and the official rules of play.
The programme, which is expected to climax on Friday, forms part of efforts to revamp the technical standards of volleyball in the country and equip new coaches with the requisite skills to develop the sport at the grassroots level.
The last time such a high-level coaching certification course was organised in Ghana was over a decade ago, making this edition a significant milestone for the development of volleyball in the country.
