Floorball Team donates to Special Olympics
The International Floorball Team (IFT) has presented a cheque for GH¢4,000 to the Board of Special Olympics Ghana to help prepare the Special Olympics athletes towards the 2017 Austria World Special Olympics Winter Games.
A member of the IFT, Mr Gaddiel Kweku Ahimah, who presented the cheque on their behalf, said the gesture was in response to an appeal by the Board of Special Olympics Ghana for financial support for the intellectually disabled athletes selected from the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra who will represent Ghana during the 2017 Austria World Special Olympics Winter Games.
About 12 athletes who started camping last year will participate in Floorball during the tournament, and expectations are that they will excel just as they did during the 2016 Special Olympics World games held in Los Angeles.
According to Mr Ahimah, the IFT, made up of nationals from Germany, Canada, America and Ghana, were excited that the Special Olympics Board had managed to tap the potential of intellectually disabled athletes and preparing them to participate in such a high-class tournament scheduled for Austria between March 14 and 25.
Moments after the presentation of the cheque the IFT engaged the intellectually disabled athletes in an international friendly match at the Aviation Social Centre.
A Board member of Special Olympics Ghana, Nana Wereko-Ampim Opoku, who received the cheque on behalf of the athletes, commended IFT for their quick response.
