Football match in memory of Eric Amankwah
All is set for the special football match tomorrow in memory of Eric Amankwah, a former player of the Black Stars and now defunct Akosombo Akotex.
The match, which takes place at the Akosombo Presbyterian School park, will involve two local clubs, Muzuu Football Academy based at Anchiase in the Asuogyaman District and an Akosombo Select Side.
It will be preceded by the burial ceremony and final funeral rites of Eric Amankwah at Akosombo.
It will rekindle memories of the day Akotex met Kumasi Asante Kotoko in a league match at Akosombo in which Amankwah and former Akotex players like Thomas Kankam, Yaw Mark, Lomo Mitchel and goalkeeper Mapio, all deceased, featured.
Expected to grace the match will be Coach J.E Adabie, one-time coach of the Black Stars and for a long-time coach of Akotex, who handled the team to beat Kotoko 3-0 in a league match in Kumasi.
Also expected to attend are ex-players of Akotex and supporters of the club, officials of Akosombo Textiles Limited, the Ghana Football Association and the DCE of Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, among others.
Amankwah, aka, Soccer James Brown, featured prominently for the Black Stars and Akotex in the 70s.
