Genser PGA Championship opens in Kumasi with 75 golfers

The 2025 Genser PGA Championship has teed off at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi, bringing together 75 professional golfers from Ghana and across the sub-region for the final and most anticipated event on the PGA Ghana calendar.

The four-day tournament, which began on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, features a strong field drawn from leading golf clubs in six countries.

This year’s competition includes 45 regular professionals, 13 lady golfers and 17 seniors, all competing for a substantial prize purse and the prestige associated with winning the Association’s flagship event.

The championship moves to Kumasi following last year’s successful hosting at the Damang Golf Club in the Western Region.

The tournament is headlined by Genser Energy, with additional support from partner organisations, reflecting the growing interest and investment in professional golf in the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, PGA President Hans De Beer stressed the importance of stakeholder support for the sport’s continued growth. He commended Genser Energy and all supporting institutions for their unwavering commitment to advancing professional golf in Ghana. He encouraged the golfers to strictly observe the rules of the tournament and to deliver their best performances over the four days.

PGA Vice President Alhaji Ahmed Padori also expressed gratitude to the Royal Golf Club’s leadership and extended appreciation to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his continuous encouragement and for permitting the use of the iconic Kumasi course for the championship. He urged players to maintain discipline and remain focused on improving their competitiveness.

Tournament Director Eric Henaku, alongside golfers such as Emos Koblah, Jessica Tei and Francis Torgah, expressed optimism in interviews ahead of the opening round. They shared confidence in making a strong impression as the season draws to an exciting close.

The tournament runs through to the weekend, with the field expected to deliver intense competition as golfers vie for top honours in what promises to be a thrilling climax to the 2025 professional golf season.
