Ghana sets target for LA28 Paralympic Games with South Korea training initiative

Three Ghanaian para-athletes, along with a team official, have travelled to South Korea to begin preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, marking the start of Ghana’s ambitious journey towards qualification.

In a joint initiative between the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC-Ghana) and the Korean Paralympic Committee, the training programme aims to provide athletes with crucial exposure and skills as they prepare for the qualification events leading up to LA28.

The Ghanaian delegation includes two para-swimmers, Promise Aheto and Bryan Akoto, as well as para-badminton player Judith Adu. They are accompanied by Michael Obeng, a media and impact official.

Under the sponsorship of the Korean Paralympic Committee, the athletes will undergo specialised training at a sports academy with activities focusing on para-badminton, swimming, and taekwondo. The camp also offers cultural exchange opportunities, giving the team a chance to experience Korean traditions and connect with the global para-sport community.

The Korean Paralympic Committee is covering the full cost of the trip and all related activities. This programme follows a similar initiative in 2022, where two Ghanaian athletes and an official attended a training camp in Korea ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The team is set to return to Ghana on November 15, 2024, bringing back invaluable experience as they continue their pursuit of qualification for LA28.
