Ghana still Africa’s hope – Kuffuor

Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kufuor, believes Ghana is still the hope of Africa at the next FIFA World Cup in Brazil despite the odds that the Black Stars face in their group.

With the Stars set to face tournament favourites Germany and Portugal alongside USA in Group G, many keen observers doubt whether Ghana can surmount the group challenge.

But the former Bayern Munich defender, in an interview with the Graphic Sports  yesterday, stated:  “I believe we have the quality to qualify from the group stages”...

However, the 38-year-old insisted that the pressure would be on the Stars to excel due to their previous achievements at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups coupled with the experience and intelligent players to cope with the pressure.

“The pressure is going to be very intense because of our previous achievements but with the experience and intelligent players the team possesses, I believe they will cope with it,” Kufuor contended.

He said he believed in the capability of Coach Kwasi Appiah whom, he argued, would not be intimidated at the global showpiece.

“Kwasi Appiah knows his job very well and I know he is ready to beat any team,” Kufuor added.

Kufuor said he agreed with the assertions of his former coach at Bayern, Ottmar Hitzfield, who expects Ghana to win against USA and  draw with  Germany and Portugal.
