Ghana to host 45th World Armwrestling Championship
In a groundbreaking triumph, Ghana has been chosen as the host for the prestigious 45th World Armwrestling Championship slated for 2024 following an impressive presentation by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation during the Congress of the global governing body in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The bid presentation by the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei-Asibey, garnered resounding support from delegates, who overwhelmingly endorsed Ghana's proposal. The bid faced a formidable challenge from a competing offer put forward by Egypt.
Ghana's selection comes hot on the heels of its successful hosting of the 12th African Armwrestling Competition in Accra last June.
After winning the bid, Mr Osei-Asibey, brimming with confidence, said that securing the global championship was not just a victory for Ghana, but also a triumph for the entire African continent as it would pave the way for the sport's growth and advancement both within Ghana and across the continent.
“This is a good thing to happen to armwrestling in Ghana, especially as it would be the first sporting discipline to host a world championship in the country. I am very happy with the pace of development of the sport, and I will be looking forward to a successful event next year.
“This will also go to compliment President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s call for Ghana to invite more visitors to Ghana to boost our sports and tourism ecosystem,” Mr Osei-Asibey said.
He added that the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship would be beneficial to Ghana beyond the realms of sports.
Under the banner of the slogan "It is Our Time", Ghana's bid promised to showcase a blend of excellence while providing a platform to exhibit the nation's renowned hospitality and cultural richness.
